I would LOVE to mess around on a DAOC freeshard. Plus if we could find one worth messing around on with people there, even better. Tried looking for one, all the sites I find are in German. lol

That George RR Martin guy doesn't seem to be spending time writing the book (i want to read - he does appear busy with other projects) so he must have free time, extrapolating to all writers, they must ALL have tons of free time!

My muse requires 18 hours a day for me to brood, especially in pubs.

Shards are cool you just can't get hooked on one and care too much about your toon or the items it has. They come and go all the time.

I loved that short SOB. I spent so much time and effort on him, i felt like he was an extension of me. Which is part of the reason why I like DAoC so much, in a sick masochistic way. Yeah you spent a LOT of time getting a character leveled, but in doing so you felt much more immersed in the character, something WoW nor WAR has.

Yeah, that's why I still love my EQ bard (the original Winin) and have kinda forgotten about my other characters in other games. My dad still likes EQ, so we go back and play it from time to time.
The other thing I notice is that the game play is much slower paced. I can actually have conversations while fighting, rather than mashing buttons constantly. Fights take longer, and autoattack is the bulk of the damage (or non-spammed spells). Each fight feel more heroic vs. taking on hordes of things that aren't much challenge.
Now that they have automated bard song twisting, my fingers hurt less after a play session than with other games.

Slower paced fights can be so much more fun... I was recently watching a video of the MMO I played before WoW and it really struck me how long the fights lasted... the whole thing is one fight, and it goes 10 minutes.
I miss those days, in a way.

One thing I liked about DAoC that WoW didn't have, and that WAR does infact have, is that WoW gave a lot of room to f* up.
In DAoC and WAR the fight can go very quickly, often times leaving us wondering what the f* just happened. But if everyone plays their class to its complete potential, it can last 5-10 minutes and it leaves you with the adrenaline pumping.
Paladins let fights in WoW go on forever in Arenas.

Exactly Hoss, Even if Origins did come out, I dont think I could bring myself to go. I had too many perfect moments that could be tarnished by trying to repeat them.

I don't know, roaming around in EQ brings back all the good memories. And tooling around in DAoC just before WAR came out is how I met Pazz. Good things can happen, or bad, depending on your perspective.

I'd have to side with not going back. I've got too many amazing memories of games I played but when I go back, it's just not the same and I'm even more disappointed than I might be otherwise.

Best thing about beginning DAoC was community. Everyone worked together and helped each other. I remember spending HOURS in Salisbury on Treb healing new people and I gave away tons of gear/gold. I did it cause people did it when I was leveling, as a way of giving back to the community.
Worst thing about today's DAoC and most MMOs is elitest cliques. They make the game based on numbers and overcapping rather than just rolling out there and having fun. Naked kamakazi runs were so much fun in Odin's.
